The Secret Smoothie Recipe That Helped My Belly Bloat
Updated: Feb 6
Shhh, are you feeling like your digestion is making too much noise? Gurgle. Gurgle. Like there may actually be a angry lion in there? Well, the last few months I have been under a huge amount of pressure, from all sides really. When my stress hits the roof, it means my digestion can get rather wonky. I know what you might be thinking - that I’m a Health Coach, I should have this all figured out - but I am human too.
One thing in my practice I am very adamant about is teaching people how to listen to their bodies and what to do when they feel a little stressed and wonky too. So for me, when I start to have belly bloat, I know I need to pay attention to my body's whispers--before they become roars!
So many of my clients say they have belly bloat (even when they do not eat) something that is actually not uncommon for people with digestive issues. Stress is a nasty beast and when we're under chronic pressures, stress triggers inflammation of the intestinal lining and disrupts the good balance of bacteria in the gut. It's like a grumpy toddler on the rampage stomping on all the good gut flora!
This is what happened to me this last week. I knew it was time destress (as best I can) and to restore and rebuild on the quick. If you reckon you've been in the same boat, it's time to rebuild and restore your gut health with this smoothie.
Every time I am feeling off, I keep it simple: smoothies, juices, and easy-to-digest soups.
The Healthy Digestion Smoothie
1/2 cup pineapple
1/4 green apple
350ml coconut water
1/2 fresh kiwi, skin on
1/2 cucumber, skin off
1 tsp fresh ginger
1/2 sachet of Body Cleanse
1 probiotic, (I use Digestion Plus)
50ml of Aloe Vera Juice
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 lemon, juice only
1/2 cup crushed ice (optional)
Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender. I liek to add a sprinkle of crunch to my smoothies and make them thick like a meal. I personally find them more satisfying that way.
